The Coachella Valley Resource Conservation District (CVRCD) promotes the conservation and wise use of natural resources in the continuing development of the Coachella Valley. The CVRCD is an independent special district of local government that works through public and private partnerships to assist farmers, homeowners, municipalities, golf course superintendents and other land users conserve soil, water, air, plant and animal resources.
Technical Conservation Support
With technical support from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the CVRCD provides local land users with numerous types of resource conservation assistance including:
Agricultural and urban irrigation water management
Soil salinity monitoring and management
Wind and water erosion control
Soil reclamation planning
Water quality protection
Wildlife habitat management
Watershed planning and management
Recreational land reclamation
Urban resource management
Since 1956 CVRCD has provided Coachella Valley landowners with research and technical assistance in the conservation and use of land and water resources. Maintenance and improvement of agricultural land and water resources continues to be a major program focus for the District, but recent dramatic increases in population and urban development have raised important new conservation challenges for Coachella Valley residents and visitors. CVRCD services increasingly address conservation concerns that affect urban as well as agricultural land users.
In partnerships with a wide variety of public and private agricultural and environmental support organizations, the CVRCD is working to help farmers, urban homeowners, homeowner associations, golf course superintendents, and municipalities wisely use and conserve the natural resources of a rapidly changing Coachella Valley.
District Location
CVRCD geographic boundaries encompass 1.5 million acres of farm, urban, recreation and wildlife habitat lands. District boundaries include the eastern slopes of the San Jacinto mountains, much of Joshua Tree National Park and a corner of the Salton Sea. Over 60,000 acres of irrigated agricultural land, 125 golf courses and all of the urban areas of the Coachella Valley are located within the District.

Board members are elected by local landowners and approved by the Riverside County Board of Supervisors to serve four year terms.
